The 411 on the Porsche 911

Porsche has completely redesigned their 911. According to Porsche, "no fewer than 90% of all 911 components are either new or have been fundamentally revised..."1

Porsche showcased the new 911 coupe at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show, gearing up for the imminent, end-of-year launch of the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S...and of course the myriad of other Porsche 911 models to follow. After the 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S, Porsche will launch their redesigned Cabriolet. The main improvement drivers will notice is that unlike the previous-generation which featured a standard soft-top, the new model offers a semi-rigid paneled top.  Infused with greater integrity, the new design does not need the structured tonnneau cover required by previous generations.

At the end of 2012, just in time for wintery-mix forecasts, Porsche is planning to launch heartier four-wheel drive variants of its 911. These models will aptly be designated by an added numeral four in their moniker. The four-wheel drive Carrera , for example, will be called the Porsche 911 Carerra 4. And, likewise the Carrera S - the Carrara 4S.

To further prove the scope of their foresight, Porsche even went so far as to schedule 911 model launches in 2013. That's when we'll see the redesigned 911 Turbo and 911 GT3 hit showroom floors. Also in late 2013, or maybe early 2014, we expect to see the new 911 Targa and perhaps even a new 911 Speedster. Though, for right now, the availability of those two models remains pure speculation.

What about the alleged Porsche 911 hybrid? Officially, it's unconfirmed.  Though, the supposition it's in the wings is grounded in the fact that it's under serious consideration. Matthias Muller, head of Porsche himself, recently conceded that the prospective model is "under discussion."1
